FOOTBALL THEME PARTY – First Year down

Rule #1– PICK YOUR TEAM! Both sides of our families are die hard LSU fans, so it was a no brainer that our little Beaux’s (who name is actually spelled after the teams slogan-“Geaux” tigers) first birthday theme would not only be football, but LSU tigers football, Geaux Tigas!

Every party starts with a good theme, but up next comes choosing colors. Keeping this party classic and simple, we opted for a black and white vintage football feel with hints of purple and gold for our chosen, beloved states football team-LSU tigers.

The actual theme was “Beaux’s First Touchdown”, but there is a number of football themes to choose from. See a few listed below

  • *child’s name*’s rookie year

Football Party Invitation

‘Let’s Geaux Beaux’

When planning parties, I always start with the invitation and plan the rest of the party around that.

With this Louisiana football inspired first birthday, we of course had to use some of our favorite football teams lingo, ‘calling Baton Rouge’ for example. I inspire you to do the same with your team. Have fun with it!

You can find the football invite template HERE.

Let’s get into the details!

With a vintage football theme in mind, I thrifted an old football helmet, old football and my favorite find (FREE at a garage sale!!) was an old school vintage football game board. We later used this as a charcuterie board, see details below.

For the table runner, I pulled out a roll of heavy brown paper that I already had on hand and wrote X’s, O’s and arrows to signify game day plans, I also used a paint marker to write game day plans on all of the black balloons, and napkins.

You can find the brown Kraft paper in the paint section at Home Depot or here, on amazon. I use this paper for SO much, even to wrap gifts.

Using an exacto knife, I cut the top and bottom off the football. I then stuck a glass inside to hold flowers-roadside flowers specifically, can you believe that?! Beauty is all around y’all!

Football Photoshoot

🎶 It’s my birthday, I’ll cry if I want too, cry if I want too 🎶

Before the party, we had a DIY football photoshoot for our birthday boy.

I taped two dollar tree white boards together, gave our little tiger a football, a #1 foam finger, his team jersey and it was GEAUX time (it was also nap time, lol) I used black frames from amazon to display his first birthday pictures at the party.

If you’re from Louisiana you know there is two seasons we celebrate-crawfish season and football season. Naturally, we served crawfish since this football birthday was in the middle of the season.

See our crawfish boil baby shower!

Besides a football shaped smash cake, football cookies, a few snacks like a football shaped charcuterie board, and LSU colored gatorades, A few foods I would have served at this party would have been fingers foods such as:

  • Buffalo slider sandwhiches
  • Chips and dip, specifically Rotel dip!
  • Wings, celery, ranch
  • Football shaped cheeseball
  • Little BBQ weenies
  • bacon and ranch pinwheels
  • Mini pigs in a blanket!
  • Pretzel bites with cheese dip

We even had our guest sport their favorite SEC teams by wearing team jerseys, shirts or cheerleading outfits. This was so much fun! Even had some rivalries 😉

TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS PARTY

  • Football vase with flowers
  • Purple and ‘Gold’ gatorades, placed in a vintage enamel wash tub in place of a cooler.
  • Game day plans written on balloons, napkins, and table runners. I found the matching plates at dollar general.
  • Football shaped charcuterie board

Happy FIRST birthday to our little tiger. We had the best time celebrating him, Louisiana style! God, Family, Football.

Geaux Tigas,

See y’all later!
