You don’t have to wait for a bigger house to build a life you love.
Hi, I’m Caitlyn.
A wife, mom of three, and the person behind Our Little Blue Cottage.
Our family of five lives in a small 900 sq ft blue cottage that we’ve spent years making our own. It’s where we’re raising our kids, tackling one project after another, squeezing more function out of every square foot, cooking a whole lot of food, and learning that a home doesn’t have to be big—or finished—to be really, really good.
But this little house is only part of the story.
We didn’t wait for someday.
I became a mom at fifteen, married my husband at eighteen, and by twenty we were building a business together. We bought our first home at twenty-one — this little blue cottage.
For a long time, I think I treated this house like a stepping stone. The place we’d make work until someday, when we had more room. More storage. A bigger kitchen. Another bedroom. The house that checked all the boxes.
But somewhere along the way, I stopped waiting.
I started asking what we could do with the home we already had.
Making Room for the life we already have.
Once I stopped looking at our little house as something we needed to outgrow, I started looking at it differently.
Instead of asking how we could get more space, I started asking how the space we already had could work harder for us.
We’ve rearranged rooms, built storage where there wasn’t any, turned outdoor spaces into extensions of our home, tackled projects ourselves, and learned that sometimes the answer isn’t more square footage. Sometimes it’s simply using what you have differently.
Our home still isn’t perfect. There are five of us living in 900 square feet, and there are plenty of days when it feels every bit of it. But little by little, we’ve created a home that works for our family and feels like us.
Life at Our Little Blue Cottage
Today, Our Little Blue Cottage is where I share all of it. The room makeovers and DIYs, cottage decorating, the ways we make 900 square feet work for our family of five, recipes from our kitchen, gardening, outdoor living, and plenty of everyday life along the way.
I’m not here to tell you that you need to live with less, stop dreaming about a bigger home, or make every inch of your house perfect.
I just want to show you what can happen when you stop waiting for someday and start making the most of the home you have right now.
Because a beautiful life doesn’t start with more square footage. It starts right where you are.
Before you go
I don’t know what your home looks like. Maybe it’s 900 square feet like ours. Maybe it’s an apartment, a starter house you’ve already “outgrown,” or a home that just isn’t quite what you pictured.
I’m not here to convince you that you should never want more.
I just don’t want you to miss what you already have while you’re waiting for it.
