Today I will show you how to make Roman Shades without cords in under 20 minutes. With only 3 inexpensive supplies, this roman shade is SO easy and very budget friendly!
Ps..these roman shade window coverings are also NO sew and NO heat, yay! Let’s get started.

Why make a Roman shade?
Because you can, Duh!
Seriously, If you love a quick DIY, this project is for you. With only 3 supplies and 20 minutes of your time, this project couldn’t be any easier! Anyone could do it, No skill needed!
If you are anything like me and change your decor up as much as you change your, well you know what I’m saying-then Paying $200+ for a window shade every few months is just not in the budget.
Let’s be honest, I wouldn’t pay $200+ for a window shade even if it was in my budget, I’m just too cheap. I’d rather make my own. A simple DIY fills up my cup!
Supplies
This roman shade cost me right at $20 bucks. I mean, it can’t get any better than that.
Here’s the supplies I used:
- 2 yards of Fabric (you could really get away with 1 yard of fabric, I just played it safe)
- 3 adjustable tension rods (make sure they fit your window!)
- HeatNBond Hem Tape
- Wood Dowels (optional, these keep the hanging part of your shade straight)
How to make Roman Shades without Cords in 20 minutes
STEP ONE: After picking out your preferred fabric, Simply measure the height and width of the window you are covering and add one inch to be able to fold over the ends of your fabric.
STEP TWO: Lay your fabric down with right side facing the floor.
Grab one of your tension rods and lay it flat across the top of your fabric. Fold the fabric over the tension rod.
Peeling back the edge your fabric, roll your hem tape onto the fabric. Going all the way down until you reach the end.
Peel back the white top layer of your hem tape, revealing the clear sticky side. Press your fabric down.
STEP THREE: Repeat the process from step two with the rest of the 3 sides of fabric but with out a tension rod.
So basically, Fold your fabric over the edges, peeling the edge of your fabric back, start to roll out your hem tape onto the fabric, going all the way down, remove white layer from the hem tape, press down.
Repeat this on all four sides.
STEP THREE: Put your the other two tension rods onto your window, you will likely want to move these around once you have your fabric on the window so location doesn’t have to be exact. Just somewhere in the middle.
Now that you have your fabric ready, It is time to place it on the window.
STEP FOUR: Using the assembled fabric (fabric + tension rod that is attached) Place the tension rod onto the top of the window.
Grab your fabric and drape it over the other two tension rods.
Optional: Stick wooden dowels in to keep the fabric straight.
You just created a faux roman shade!
Just like that you have created a custom window treatment that was inexpensive. Change it out for seasons, holidays, or as your decor changes.

Materials
