There is basically only two seasons here in Louisiana-crawfish season and the rest of the year.
Ya’ll know what Im talkin’ about, Warmer weather here on the bayou calls for corn, potatoes, crawfish peeling and most importantly, gathering.
My favorite way of hosting gatherings is with a unique theme that combines our favorite things, while testing my creativity using a lot of what we already have here on hand. Simple but impactful my friends!
Come along as we throw this Louisiana inspired crawfish boil co-ed baby shower right in our backyard.
Crawfish boil party decor
When our due date was smack dab in the middle of crawfish season, we knew there wasn’t a better way to go than with this Louisiana baby shower theme,
Born on the Bayou.
Keeping this backyard boil simple but impactful, we used things we already had here around the house.
Baby’s breath flowers inside white ceramic pitchers, old vintage coke crates, and mason jars (lots of mason jars, because what else would you drink your sweet tea in?!)
Crawfish themed cake and cookies
Keeping it simple we did a vanilla buttercream cake decorated with a crawfish cookie and moss.
For cookies we did crawfish, corn, potatoes, tobabasco and baby bib decorated cookies.
One of my favorite details of the crawfish boil baby shower was the Louisiana baby book of first.
We had our family and friends each write a memorable note for our new baby inside the included ‘sign in’ sheet, It even has pages for the first and second birthday, a family tree and milestones such as baby’s first king cake, football game, festival, first gumbo, and more!
Crawfish boil hand washing station
lip smackin, crawfish crackin, good time.
That is until you wipe your eyes with all that creole seasoning, whew, Bless your heart.
Do your guest a favor and setup a hand washing station.
We used a rolling cart (that was out of the baby’s nursery that was later used as a rolling baby station, life saver!) some hand towels, a tin bucket to collect the water, lemon slices to neutralize the burn, and a mason jar dispenser for the water.
The watering hole
It ain’t a southern gathering without sweet tea, of course!
We made a few gallons of sweet tea with lemons and used mason jars for the guest to drink out of, because what else would be suitable to drink your sweet tea in here in Louisiana?
How to serve your crawfish
The crawfish, corn, potatoes, and sausage is dumped directly from the boiling pot onto long tables covered in plastic table cloth or newspaper. Neighbors gather around, Plates are rarely used, dozens of paper towels are placed around the table, and people eat with their hands, not forks.
If you’re lucky, you might get it served on a platter-not no silver one, though.
When the first pot is devoured another pot is dumped, again, and again, and again!
Who Dat Baby? Das my baby! Baby Beaux at his very first crawfish boil.
That’s all ya’ll.
