This simple 3 ingredient garlic butter can’t get any easier! Three basic ingredients and just a few minutes to whip up. You will want to spread this easy garlic butter recipe on French bread, dinner rolls, or even throw a spoonful on your steak.
Growing up our fridge stayed stocked with garlic spread specifically for spaghetti night. I can smell it now, oh how the aroma of amazing garlic bread takes me back!
I used the same grocery store brand we used growing up up until a couple of weeks ago.
After cooking my momma’s spaghetti recipe, I went to grab the garlic spread to make the garlic bread–gasp. I was out. How could this be?! We don’t eat momma’s spaghetti without momma’s garlic bread! With minimal ingredients and not wanting to make a grocery store trip in the middle of cooking, I used what I had on hand to make this 3 ingredient garlic butter in a pinch.
Now I’m not saying I won’t use the grocery store garlic butter just to take me back in time every now and then but I felt a heck of a lot prouder of myself having made this homemade garlic butter sauce, with only 3 ingredients and about 5 minutes of time.
3 ingredient garlic butter, say what?!
That’s right! Three simple ingredients:
- stick of butter, room temperature
- garlic powder
- dried parsley (fresh parsley would be best)
How to make garlic butter in minutes
Easy ingredients, easy steps!
Using any airtight container, I use a small mason jar, Add butter, garlic powder and dried parsley.
Using a fork, mash the butter against the jar, mixing the ingredients together. That’s it! It really is that simple.
Tip: Butter at room temperature mixes easily than cold butter. Let it sit out for an hour or so before you start to cook or keep a stick of unsalted butter out on the counter for up to two weeks like I do. If you are in a pinch like I was, melted butter will work just fine.

Spruce up your garlic butter
I shared the easy way to make this garlic butter with very few ingredients (and it’s delicious!) but if I have more time, I would always op to use fresh ingredients instead. The best part is being able to change this simple recipe to your family’s liking!
Here’s a few tips:
- Use fresh garlic cloves, chopped
- Fresh herbs
- add some parmesan cheese
- Add a cute label to your garlic butter jar, I’ve even included a FREE printable label below.
How long does garlic butter stay fresh?
Garlic butter can stay fresh for up to a week in the fridge.
Can you freeze this 3 ingredient garlic butter?
Definitely! Garlic butter can stay in the freezer for up to 6 months. I’ll even share a secret-ice cube trays. Make a big batch of garlic butter to freeze using ice cube trays, popping a cube out to thaw in the fridge when you need it.
Another way to freeze your butter is to just leave it in your original container and thaw in the fridge until you’re ready to serve. I like to bring it to room temperature so it is spreadable.
