What are bread machine dinner rolls?

Homemade dinner rolls, What could be better? Considering your bread machine is going to do all the hard work for you, Homemade BREAD MACHINE dinner rolls, that’s what could be better!

Toss the ingredients in the bread maker after lunch, and by the time dinner rolls around, you have soft, buttery, fluffy rolls, piping hot from the oven.

Using a bread machine is such an easy way to make dinner rolls and saves a ton of time. A bread machine lets you skip the steps of kneading the dough, and lets the machine do the work for you. It really is the best thing.

Below is a step by step video to make homemade dinner rolls in a bread machine.

This bread machine recipe is a simple method for making fluffy, buttery homemade rolls every. single. time.

Plus, you probably have most of these ingredients already in your pantry.

How to make soft and buttery dinner rolls in the bread machine

Gather your ingredients, dump inside, walk away.

No but seriously, it is that easy. The only part you have to do is shape your rolls, let them rise and bake them for 15-20 mins.

To begin, place all of your ingredients inside the bread machine in the following order:

Pss…dry ingredients go last!

  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/3 cup of melted butter
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3 3/4 cup bread flour (all-purpose flour will work too)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast (or one package)

Press start then select dough setting on your bread machine. Now go relax while the bread machine does all the hard work for you.

TIP: It is important that you place your ingredients in your bread machine in the order that your bread machine has listed in the manual, if you are not sure or don’t have a manual, it is safe to assume dry ingredients go last.

When the dough cycle is complete (1 hr, 3 mins for my machine) Place dough to a lightly floured surface.

Using your knife or dough scraper, cut the dough into four equal parts.

Next, cut your dough into smaller pieces, for a total of about 15-20 pieces of dough.

How to shape your dinner rolls

At this point, the aroma of homemade bread has filed your home. Delicious soft, fluffy dinner rolls slathered in butter are so close to making it to your dinner plate (or maybe not-I won’t judge if you sneak a few in before hand)

Shaping your bread machine dinner rolls is the only work you have to do and I wouldn’t even consider it work if you like to make with your hands like I do.

Follow these simple steps to shape your dinner rolls:

Shape your roll by tucking the edges under to create a smooth top.

Place your hands around the ball and rotate to form an even ball of dough.

Repeat the process for each roll and place rolls on a baking sheet.

Baking your bread machine dinner rolls

buttering dinner rolls

After placing all rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, brush the tops with butter and cover with plastic wrap or a tea towel.

Let rolls rise in a warm area for 45 min to an hour. Rolls will get cozy and be touching.

Pre-heat oven at 375.

After rolls have doubled in size, Bake rolls at 375 for 15-18 mins or until the rolls are golden brown.

When the rolls come out of the oven, brush the tops with….Yes, you guessed it, more butter!

With butter dripping down the sides, and a delicious hot dinner roll staring you in the face, you are now going to let the rolls cool. (torture!)

buttery dinner rolls

These soft, fluffy, buttery dinner rolls are worth the wait. Just wait until your family comes in to that hot fresh bread smell…They are going to be begging for more! My daughter says “these rolls taste like heaven momma”

Pair these buttery dinner rolls with my favorite creamy cheesy chicken spaghetti and a hot veggie like green beans or keep this recipe simple and brush on some of our 3 ingredient garlic butter!

Can you freeze bread machine dinner rolls?

how to freeze dinner rolls

Yes! Planning holiday dinners? Everyone loves good ole’ yeast rolls like grandma made, don’t worry-I won’t tell them the bread machine did all the hard stuff.

Impress your guest with your hosting skills by serving homemade dinner rolls, straight out the freezer!

To freeze your rolls, follow the steps above until you have formed your ball shape. Once your rolls are formed, place them on a baking sheet and into the freezer for 24 hrs. After frozen, transfer them to a plastic bag.

When you are ready for your rolls, let them thaw and rise on the counter for 4-5 hrs then bake as normal.

Can I make this dinner roll recipe without a bread machine?

To make this recipe without a bread machine, just knead it for about 10 minutes by hand, or in a kitchen aid with a dough hook for about 5 minutes, you will need to do 2 rises if you do it this way.

  • First rise after mixing the dough. (about an hour)
  • Final rise after shaping the bread dough into rolls. (45 minutes to 1 hour)

How long do these bread machine dinner rolls take?

They take about 2 1/2 hours (but pretty hands off!)  from start to finish.

If you want to have them for dinner say 5:30, I would start these at 2:30. They will be fresh and ready to be devoured at dinner time.

Where can I get a bread machine?

Thrift stores, garage sales, grandmas house.

Apparently, these machines were really popular at one point and it’s easy to see why. I spent hours baking bread before I got my bread machine and although I like to work with my hands, It is really nice to have the option to dump ingredients in before church and come home to a hot loaf of sandwich bread (which is completely hands off, the machine will bake the loaf for you, too!)

I bought my first bread machine for $7.99 (!!!) at our local goodwill, but I have been eye balling this bread machine over on Amazon.

Let’s bring bread machines back, ladies!

Do I need to use bread machine yeast? What about bread flour?

Bread machine yeast and rapid rise yeast are just types of instant yeast. This means that bread machine yeast, rapid rise yeast and instant yeast can all be used interchangeably. They are essentially the same.

If you don’t have bread flour on hand, you can substitute with all-purpose flour in a pinch. The difference is, the Bread machine flour will result in a bit fluffier texture.
