Can I get a dozen (or two) of the cinnamon sugar please?!
When I took a bite of a cinnamon sugar coated donut for the first time a few weeks ago, I gasped and immediately thought ‘What have I been missing all my life?’ All this time I’ve looked straight passed other donuts, skipping straight to the trusty and oh so delicious glazed donut that I never stopped to think that another flavor might be just as yummy.
So naturally after this delicious encounter, I thought to myself, I have to make these cinnamon sugar donuts using my bread machine. I already use my bread machine to make bagels, pretzel bites, and hamburger buns. Why couldn’t I use it to make donuts too?!

These bread machine donuts use simple ingredients. Most you likely already have on hand!

- 1/2 cup Warm milk

- 1/3 cup sugar

How to make the BEST bread machine donuts
The best thing about this recipe (and most of my others) is that it comes together in the bread machine. Wo-Ho! Who doesn’t love a simple recipe?
1. First, Make the dough- Add all the ingredients to your bread machine in the order listed above and select dough setting. By the way, wet ingredients usually go first when working with bread machines. Now, Walk away and tend to other things like that dreaded pile of laundry, boo!
2. Cut out your donuts – Once the dough cycle has finished, take it out onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut out the circles using a cookie cutter. A glass works well if you don’t own a circle cookie cutter. Cut out a circle in the center. I used a cookie cutter and a small lid to the top of a salt shaker. Although, I think I’ll definitely invest in a doughnut cutter to make perfectly round donut shop donuts since I’m pretty sure my kids will have me making these often.
PS..The best part about these donuts-the center of the donuts can be fried into doughnut holes or after frying them, toss them in powdered sugar to make mini beignets. My kids go crazy over these!
3. Let them rise – Next, cover the doughnuts with plastic wrap and let them rise until they double in size. While you are waiting on the donuts to rise, go ahead and heat your oil and make your cinnamon sugar mixture.
4. Fry the donuts- Once the doughnuts have risen, it’s time to fry! Fry each doughnut in the hot oil about a minute on each side. They will be golden brown. Then, using a slotted spoon, take the doughnut out off the hot oil and lay onto a wire rack lined with paper towels to drain any extra oil but only for a second.
5. Toss in cinnamon sugar – Once the doughnuts have had a small second to drain, Toss them in the cinnamon sugar mixture. I’ve found the best way to do this is to pour the cinnamon sugar mixture onto a plate, then grab the donut and twist it back and forth. You should probably wait for the donuts to cool but who can pass up a hot, fresh, cinnamon sugar covered doughnut?!
Ta da! That’s all there is to it. So, What do you think? Are you ready to say ‘see ya later!’ to dunkin donuts?

Yeast donuts- Have a lighter, airier texture with a slight chewiness.
