How to make soft and buttery dinner rolls in the bread machine
Gather your ingredients, dump inside, walk away.
No but seriously, it is that easy. The only part you have to do is shape your rolls, let them rise and bake them for 15-20 mins.
To begin, place all of your ingredients inside the bread machine in the following order:

- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/3 cup of melted butter
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 3 3/4 cup bread flour (all-purpose flour will work too)
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast (or one package)
Press start then select dough setting on your bread machine. Now go relax while the bread machine does all the hard work for you.
TIP: It is important that you place your ingredients in your bread machine in the order that your bread machine has listed in the manual, if you are not sure or don’t have a manual, it is safe to assume dry ingredients go last.
When the dough cycle is complete (1 hr, 3 mins for my machine) Place dough to a lightly floured surface.
Using your knife or dough scraper, cut the dough into four equal parts.
Next, cut your dough into smaller pieces, for a total of about 15-20 pieces of dough.

Place your hands around the ball and rotate to form an even ball of dough.
Repeat the process for each roll and place rolls on a baking sheet.

After placing all rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, brush the tops with butter and cover with plastic wrap or a tea towel.
Let rolls rise in a warm area for 45 min to an hour. Rolls will get cozy and be touching.
Pre-heat oven at 375.
After rolls have doubled in size, Bake rolls at 375 for 15-18 mins or until the rolls are golden brown.
When the rolls come out of the oven, brush the tops with….Yes, you guessed it, more butter!

To freeze your rolls, follow the steps above until you have formed your ball shape. Once your rolls are formed, place them on a baking sheet and into the freezer for 24 hrs. After frozen, transfer them to a plastic bag.
When you are ready for your rolls, let them thaw and rise on the counter for 4-5 hrs then bake as normal.
Can I make this dinner roll recipe without a bread machine?
To make this recipe without a bread machine, just knead it for about 10 minutes by hand, or in a kitchen aid with a dough hook for about 5 minutes, you will need to do 2 rises if you do it this way.
- First rise after mixing the dough. (about an hour)
- Final rise after shaping the bread dough into rolls. (45 minutes to 1 hour)
How long do these bread machine dinner rolls take?
They take about 2 1/2 hours (but pretty hands off!) from start to finish.
If you want to have them for dinner say 5:30, I would start these at 2:30. They will be fresh and ready to be devoured at dinner time.

Do I need to use bread machine yeast? What about bread flour?
Bread machine yeast and rapid rise yeast are just types of instant yeast. This means that bread machine yeast, rapid rise yeast and instant yeast can all be used interchangeably. They are essentially the same.
If you don’t have bread flour on hand, you can substitute with all-purpose flour in a pinch. The difference is, the Bread machine flour will result in a bit fluffier texture.
