For starters, I absolutely love my bread maker. As busy mom of 3, I use it nearly every week to make hamburger buns, cinnamon rolls, pizza dough, dinner rolls and so much more.
Bread machine recipes are great for busy days, baking weekly loaves for the family and for making the most delicious buns you’ve ever had.
My favorite way to use the bread machine is to actually make a dough or two once a week and stick it in the fridge, then I will shape and bake whatever bread, or rolls we’d like to have for that week. Whether that be cinnamon rolls for breakfast or buttery crescent rolls with dinner.
I love my bread maker so much that I actually have TWO! I have one I found at a thrift store for $7.99 and this one from Amazon.
As much as I use my bread machine, I can not believe it took me this long to make these jalapeño cheddar buns! Now that I have-I haven’t stopped. I even made these buns as Christmas gifts for our family and friends. Who doesn’t like getting homemade bread as a gift?! I’d never complain! That’s for sure.

Jalapeno Cheddar Buns Bread Machine Recipe
Ingredients for Jalapeno Cheese Bread
Here’s what you need to make these amazing bread machine jalapeno cheese buns:
- 1/2 cup Warm water
- 1/2 cup Warm milk
- 1 Egg
- 6 tbsp melted Butter
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 3 3/4 cup Bread flour (or all purpose flour)
- 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 cup Sharp cheddar shredded cheese
- 1/2 cup Diced jalapeños in a jar (or use fresh jalapenos for a bit more kick.)
- 1 tbsp minced onions, optional
- 1 tsp garlic powder, optional
How to make Jalapeno Cheddar Buns using a Bread Machine
Place ingredients in the bread pan in the order listed above.
Do not add the cheese or jalapenos yet. Bread machines have a specific order that you should add the ingredients in, so be sure to check for your specific model. Most bread machines require dry ingredients go last.
Set the bread machine setting to the ‘dough’ cycle then press start.
Add the cheese and jalapenos
When the machine beeps during the kneading cycle, it’s time to add your cheese and jalapenos! If you have an older machine, it may not let you know when the second kneading cycle begins. It is usually only a few minutes in, watch your bread machine to see.
Check your dough!
The perfect bread dough in the bread machine will stick just a little bit to the sides, but pull away while being kneaded. It’ll be a bit sticky to touch, but not much. Just a quick glance will do.
Shape your buns
When the dough cycle is complete, take the dough out of the machine and place it on a floured surface.
Divide the dough into 6-8 sections.
Shape each section into a large disk shape.
Allow the buns to Rise.
Cover and allow buns to rise 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
Bake for 12-15 mins.
Bake for 12-15 mins or until golden brown. Enjoy!
How to use your jalapeño cheddar buns
This is my go-to recipe for sandwiches now! My families favorite way to eat these jalapeño cheddar buns is to pair them with turkey, pepper jack cheese ( Swiss or Monterey Jack cheese if you don’t like spicy foods), chipotle mayo, avocado and tomato for a hot turkey melt. Once you assemble the sandwich, stick in the oven on ‘broil’ for 3-5 minutes. This sandwich is so so good ya’ll.
We discovered this sandwich at a local sandwich shop called counter culture. If you are local, this sandwich is essentially a copy cat version of counter cultures hot turkey melt that you can make at home.
Also, these buns by themselves are not all that spicy. My 8 year old can eat them. Another way to eat them is with pulled pork, brisket, grilled cheeses or burgers. Talk about good!
CAN YOU FREEZE THESE JALAPENO CHEDDAR BUNS?
Absolutely! To freeze your buns, follow the steps above until you have formed your disk shape. Once your rolls are formed, place them on a baking sheet and into the freezer for 24 hours.
After frozen, transfer them to a plastic bag. When you are ready for your buns, let them thaw and rise on the counter for 4-5 hrs then bake as normal.
Another alternative to freezing the buns is to freeze the jalapeño dough itself. After you have made your dough using the bread machine, wrap the dough in plastic wrap and freeze. Transfer to the fridge the night before you are ready to use the dough, place the dough on the counter for 30-45 mins to come to room temperature then shape and bake as normal.
CAN I MAKE THESE JALAPENO CHEDDAR BUNS WITHOUT A BREAD MACHINE?
To make this recipe without a bread machine, just knead your dough for about 10 minutes by hand, or in the bowl of a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment for about 5 minutes then let the dough rise for 1 hour. Filling the same directions to shape and bake from above, or on the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
